I don't think that you are asking to much of your significant other to be supportive of you. Unfortantly people who have no problems with sleep, do not know what is lost. If he had trouble sleeping, than he would know. I think people like this, really don't take sleep deprivation seriously. With this, I strongly fault the medical community because of their lack of knowledge or interest in the subject.
I don't suffer from Diabetes, but I have understanding for those who do. Diabetes is a respectable disease, unlike insomnia, because people are educated about it.
I have had non-supportive people in my life and I chose to removed them for that reason. I am not asking you to do the same, but you may want to try and educate him about your insomnia and if that doesn't work, try and find people who are supportive and try and be less affected by his insensitive behavior.
