Hi,

At Dr. Ray (Roy?) Walford's Calorie Restriction website (www.walford.com) some of the people there were saying they slept better if they had something salty to eat a little before bedtime. Maybe it only works for people who are restricting calories.

I guess it might work through delaying bathroom visits. Or maybe it has something to do with upping your mineral balance before sleep.

If you need to restrict sodium, I'd try a one-a-day type multimineral tablet an hour or so before bed. Otherwise, maybe some salty, baked (to cut down on fat) tortilla chips an hour or so before bedtime would work.

I can't test it too well as I have intermittant acid reflux. When it happens it keeps me awake, so I have to be careful about eating near bedtime. The couple of times I tried eating something salty late in the evening, I thought I slept longer. (It could have been coincidence, or the positive effect of high hopes, of course.)

Of course there's always valerian tea, if you can stand to keep it in your house. (The last I bought smelled so bad I threw it away.) Maybe it comes in foil-wrapped teabags now.

I hope someone else comes up with something more helpful for you.

Raynelle
