It sounds like you may be suffering from anxiety, which can cause an increase in your heart rate, especially if you are focused on it. Your heart rate can still be in the normal range, but you feel an increase because you know how your heart rate usually feels. Doctors do not.
People suffering from anxiety disorders are often told nothing is wrong and frequently diagnosed with depression, especially if the have trouble sleeping. Anxiety and depression are two different conditions that require two different treatments. They are not the same, even though anxiety can cause depression, just as any other medical condition can.
There is effective treatment out there for anxiety. Try and look for a doctor that specializes in anxiety disorders and one who offers "Cognictive Behavior Modification" as a treatment. Please try and stay away from medications, if at all possible.
A good book to read on anxiety is called from "Panic To Power" by Lucinda Bassett. You can purchase it at any bookstore or check it out of your local library.
Good Luck and God bless,
Meg
