This kind of problem is where the behavioural modification program is exceptionally helpful. The sleep anxiety has taken on a life of its own, and it is the primary reason you can't sleep.

Strongly recommend getting your hands on "Say Good Night to Insomnia" by Greg Jacobs. I feel so lucky that I found this forum, and somebody recommended this book to me.

It has only been over the last year that my sleeping got so bad that I went to the doctor for sleeping pills. I found that once I had done, I had the feeling that I would not be able to sleep without sleeping pills. I suffered fairly consequences in my education because of my insomnia. I have to do a second practicum. I got the book when I had about 4 weeks of my practicum left, and it made a huge difference. The insomnia buried me to deep to come out ahead, but I had my sleep under reasonable control by the end of my practicum and this was a very difficult period of my life. It would not have happened without the book.

The main thing that was feeding the insomnia after the first week was my anxiety that if I didn't get proper sleep, I wouldn't pass my practicum. My mind often raced until the wee hours, or if I did fall asleep at a reasonable hour, I'd wake up at about 3 am and be unable to get back to sleep.
