could b.c. pills cause insomnia?

hi
i wonder if birth control pills could have something to do with insomnia. i'm taking them for aobut 4 months now. A bad side effect i noticed since i started taking them is that i get a rash that itches terribly for 3-4 days every month. maybe it has something to do with hormones in the pills? and maybe that adds or causes insomnia too? although i think my insomnia started a little while before the pills
does anyone know anything?
