I also have good results with Ambien. It will become less and less effective if you take it regularly. I have been pretty successful using it only occasionally, although recently I have taken it too often. I am going back to the way I used it originally. That is, I took it only when I traveled, when I was keyed up about a special event the following day for which I needed to be rested, or after 2-3 very short nights. If I take it at the level of about an average of 10 Ambien (10 mg) per month, it is still effective and I don't seem to suffer any bad effects (like rebound insomnia, etc.). Lately, I had begun taking it whenever I had trouble sleeping and that got to be too often. I now realize that I need to go through some bad nights of little sleep, keeping the Ambien only for special circumstances. Of course, no one knows the potential negatives of taking Ambien long term. I would rather not take it -- or ANY medication, for that matter. So I will try to keep it to a minimum. Trazedone did not work well for me, either. First of all, I immediately became congested when I took it. Secondly, it made me spacey and groggy but didn't necessarily bring on sleep. I hope this is helpful and I wish you good luck with whatever path you take.
