Anne's thread was so helpful to me. I have been procrastinating about getting in touch with the local sleep disorders clinic - because I only want advice about sleep restriction, not meds, not all the sleep hygiene things I've been doing forever, and am nervous about how they will react. This reinforces that I need to be clear about what I'm asking for - I have managed to find out that they do USE SR at this clinic.About Klonopin, I used it a lot. The first time, about 12 years ago, I used .5 mg, it helped, after a while it stopped helping (I.e. i woke up in middle of night=my problem) and i increased to 1.0 mg. Worked for a while, and then doc said no higher. About 6 or 7 years later, after having good results with homeopathy for several years and then that got unreliable, i decided to go back to Klon. and give homeopathy a rest - started at .5mg, same experience, this time the doc (different one) said I could go as high as 4 mg. I got up to 3.5 mg after about 6 months, and decided i might as well taper off and go back to homeopathy, having made it through a particularly stressful time. I went down to .5 mg, no apparent problem, and homeopathy kicked in again. I was very happy with that. But when I tried to go below .5 mg, I would stop sleeping (be awake for several hours in mid. night). So my doc and my homeopath said ok to keep taking it. It didn't make me sleepy, but i didn't have the rebound. After about 4 years!!, while trying Serazone on another break from homeopathy (it didn't work) i thought, Oh, might as well get off Klonopin, can't make it worse. Tried going from one .5mg pill to 3/4 to 1/2 to 1/4 ( had been reading Hauri's book) - that was fine. And then when i dropped that 1/4 pill --yes, I could sleep worse. 1-2 hours per night. Went back to the 1/4 pill, and sleeping 3-4 hours per night. Eventually, I did get off, much much much more gradually, slivering the pills over days, and alternate days.
That's what I know about Klonopin. It was helpful for months.
Good luck, AnneJudy
