I use restoril. It is only for short term use and it probably has lost most of its effect. You will have to discuss a program of tapering off it. In the my month of insomnia,I took restoril and it knocked out. Then, it stopped working. I now take it occasionally. No more than once a week. Sometimes only twice a month. When I do take it, it knocks me out for the night.

Many have had success taking a drug that works as a parachute if we experience a succession of bad nights. Even this can result in a night of rebound insomnia but better to spread out the really bad nights. Cassidy gave you some good suggestions. Sleep restriction is very good at helping your sleep onset problem.

Do you have any other physical problems that can account for your sleep maintenance.

I cured my sleep onset problem but still have a sleep maintenance problem but I also have a bladder problem that accounts for my difficulty with sleep maintenance and makes my solution a little bit more challenging.

The good news is some people hear have reported a quick success with good hygienge and or restriction--especially for short timers like yourself.
