last night when i couldnt sleep...

Posted by Cecilia on October 15, 2003 at 06:17:37:

hi,

i went to bed last night at around midnight and i woke up to one of our october hanging skeletens outside the front door banging the glass in the wind. this was i think around 2:30am. i took care of that and got back in my bed. i couldnt sleep. i started thinking about it. my heart sped up a bit, i wasnt nervous about it but i could tell a bit that my thoughts were beginning to wake my body up. i laid there for maybe an hour or more, in and out of very light sleep, until i decided to get up and change the cd that was playing (i always play relaxing music at night that i can barely hear, its very calming) i put in my dahli lama cd on acceptance. i told myself that this was a good enough opportunity as any to practice my relaxation techniques. i listened to the cd while laying comfortable in my bed and i fell asleep.

i found that not focusing on the sleep brought my heart rate way down and i drifted off. i dont focus on the sleep because i accepted my situation and chose to instead work on relaxing.
