Posted by sleepynj on October 15, 2003 at 07:01:45:It's been a while since I have checked in. The SR has been working. It took about 5 weeks to really see the benefit. From that point, it got even better and I was sleeping from 11:00 to about 5:00 a.m, then from 5:00 to 6:45. It was sound sleep and refreshing. Things were starting to look good. Then "bam", the insomnia returned. It's actually kind of funny. I want so bad to relax and sleep and instead my body seems to have different agenda. In any event, I started to think of insomnia as dislocated shoulder. Once you dislocated your shoulder, it is always prone to slipping out of joint. That is insomnia, once you've been hit with it once, you are always going to be prone to it. Oh well, sweet sleep had returned for a while and I have to tell you, it was wonderful while it lasted. I am still doing the SR and I recommend it to everyone because it does work. However, in my instance, work related stress has caused the return of my insomnia. I don't think SR can really override my stress, but I do know that trying to catch up on sleep at other times will definitely worsen my insomnia so I stay steadfast with SR. Right now, I need to resolve the work stuff. My advice; however, to those who continue to suffer from insomnia is that you need to do two things to manage this condition. 1) practice SR all the time, 2) make changes in your personal life that are affecting you negatively. You must remove the triggers of your insomnia. I know this is hard to do, but in the long run it will pay off. In my own case, I am considering a career change. It's a bit scary, but I know my job is a trigger and I am not the type to let things roll off my back easily. Therefore, if I can't change how I respond, then I need to change my environment. In the final analysis, you CAN sleep again, it's a matter of what you are willing to do beyond SR to return to your comfort zone. Ciao for now.
