Insomnia & Marriage

Posted by Gina on October 15, 2003 at 16:05:14:

Hi,

I'm going through another bad patch, just started SR again last night and I know that will kick in & start helping soon.

What I haven't seen much posted about here is how insomnia affects marriage/relationships. It seems to be pretty stressful on mine. My husband and I sleep seperately almost all of the time. Plus he has to take up the slack when I'm just too tired to do one more housework or childcare chore. And although I seem to be managing the depresion on days when I haven't slept well better these days, it is still a big factor and in those periods, I just don't have a ton to offer emotionally to him or my daughter. Too many days in a row of just getting by and doing the minimum is depressing! I know things go better when I just do my normal routine and sometimes I do but often I'm too tired or I feel dizzy or just don't trust myself on the road & that's isolating at home with a baby, so I end up looking to my husband for more emotional needs than I'd like during bad sleep periods.

Plus I think he doesn't completely understand the insomnia--thinks somehow it's all in my head. He's one of these people who can go to sleep after drinking a cup of coffee or if he's really angry or upset. (Don't we wish!)

Just wanting to hear from some others of you about how insomnia has affected your relationships and know I'm not the only one! Thanks.
