alex, i would ask the doc who prescribed the medication for a different med or not in capsule form, one that you can cut into pieces. explain to him that you want to taper off very gradually. if he says that your dose is so small that you couldn't be dependent, explain that it is probably mostly psychological dependence, and that it would be easiest to very gradually withdraw.

as far as sleep restriction, you WILL eventually sleep, your body has to! just follow the guidlines in the books and try not to cheat. work on lowering your anxiety during the day time. excercise, such as walking every day is also very helpful. even if you feel too tired, just do it and it will help with the stress.

i had all your same fears, and it took some time, but i sleep great most of the time now. i had insomnia about 2 years, and took drugs nightly for about 1.5 years. it took several weeks to start seeing some improvement after i read wiedman's book, and it took 4 months before i really felt that i was recovering. so hang in there, it's worth it!
