Yes, SR really works. However, in my case it did not work over night and from the great deal of research that I have completed and emails that I have personally traded with Weidman, it is clear that it takes most people a while for the SR to kick in. For me it took going 4 to 5 hours a night for about four weeks. It was a real drag, but by the 5th, sleep jumped to 6.5 hours with one 15 to 20 minute awakening. SR is not easy, it is a real test of your committment, but it will work. It is important that even during the days where you feel terrible that you get outside and do something. Perferably something that increases your heart rate. The worst thing to do as insomniac is to "relax". You need to maintain a healty sleep/wake cycle, otherwise your body gets really messed up. Bottom line, if you stick with the SR, no cheating, it WILL work. And yes, get up if you can't sleep, then try again. This also works. Once you build up enough of a sleep debt, you won't be worried about being tired at bedtime, you will be tired. Guaranteed. And then once you start to get some sleep, even a little without pills, your confidence will begin to improve, then you will begin to refine your sleep routine, and the whole thing snow balls. However, what I notice time after time, is that most people give up on SR after a few days. If I don't know where I'd be today. To me, SR was the only option so I stuck with it in spite of how I felt for four weeks. Write into the forum everyday if you need encouragement, just be willing to commit up to two months before assessing whether it is working or not.
