Stacy, what you are suffering from is withdrawel from the ambien. The ativan, which is a powerful benzo and highly addicitive was masking the w/d.

my suggestion is to GRADUALLY reduce your intake of ambien. Slowly taper off say over a period of a week or two. I'm not sure what dose you're currently on but reduce it by 20% for a few days and then another 20%...until you are off. You may feel bad for a couple of days but it will go away. DO not take ativan for more then a couple of days...You will regain the ability to sleep although it may take your body some time to readjust.
