I too experienced daytime anxiety while taking Ambien. At the the time I attributed it to other things, but now that I have been Ambien-free for several months, I recognize that a lot of it was due to the Ambien. I never had panic attacks, but everyone reacts differently to medications, so it could be that or it could just be a psychological reaction to knowing that you didn't take anything for sleep. I also wouldn't recommend buying anything over the internet (particularly without a prescription), because there's no way to know what you're getting. My advice would be to try tapering the Ambien, and find ways to reduce your anxiety level (either on your own or with a therapist). Also, I've never heard of using Effexor for panic attacks; this is a stimulating anti-depressant and I wouldn't think it would be a first-line choice. You may want to get a second opinion.
