You know, I do wonder why I still check/post on this board and if it's bad for me. But I've been doing so well for so long that I guess it hasn't harmed me. I do think it can have a negative effect on people.

The key is to use it for ideas and inspiration..if it is scaring you, it's definitely not helpful.

For a long time, I couldn't really believe I was "cured" or that sleep restriction, etc could be so helpful. I checked back with the board to see how others were doing, and seeing so many people get better helped confirm its benefits for me. Sometimes when people were still struggling I could kind of see why, but not always.

Then when I did gain more confidence that I was going to be alright, I wanted to keep posting so others would see that this thing can be beat. As Tom said, if it wasn't for this board, I don't know what would have happened to me. I had found Jacob's book on my own, but I found Wiedman's book through this forum, and his book plus the support I received here was the turning point for me.

By the way, last week I had a really hard time sleeping for the first time in a year or two. (By this I mean lasting more than one night in a row) I started to get very anxious and noticed I was slipping into a pattern of staying awake most of one night, then sleeping better the next, etc. I took klonopin a few times, which is rare for me and I did not want to get in the habit of taking that. So I reluctantly started sleep restriction again for the first time in years. I restricted my sleep to 6 1/2 hours for about three nights and immediately started sleeping better. This week I'm still setting my alarm about 45 mins earlier than I had been, and I'm sleeping well for about 7 straight hours. It is very reassuring for me to know that I can use this technique and get such good results so quickly. The anxiety that was building up immediately dissipated.
