I to got very anxious when I first read the board. However, I believe most people's sleep improves over time and practice. There are many success stories and not a lot of failure stories with two year plus people. Long term--since childhood--is probably more problematic. You are on the right track with a cognitive therapist. If you can control this anxiety, you can use it to control many other anxious situations, and we will all experience those. So there is even a skill that will serve you well. I also think meditation and visualization is a great way to control anxiety. The better I meditate, the better I sleep.
