Carla, when I did sleep restriction, I was gooder-than-good for six or eight months, and my averages at the end were exactly what they'd been at the start, 4-1/2 hours/night. It did even me out -- I'd get 4-1/2 every night, instead of 6-1/2 one night and 1-1/2 the next -- and I think that regularity was helpful, easier on my body.

I think there are different causes of insomnia, physical as well as emotional, which is probably why some things work for some people but not for others.
