I used Klonopin for about 3 weeks. You can search this board for my discussion on K. I used 0.5 mgs. every night for a week. The first 3 nights were pretty good. However, by the fourth night I started to build up a tolerance and wasn't falling asleep and actually was getting pretty depressed (crying a lot which is not typical for me). K is a depressant so this isn't unusual. Anyway, my doctor told me to go to 2 days on and one day off (K has a very large half life). This worked pretty good and I felt better because I was getting much needed rest. However, I was concerned about dependency so I decided to stop after three weeks. That is when the fun really began. The rebound anxiety was pretty signifcant and of course no more sleep. Well, I figured at that point the K wasn't really fixing anything, just masking a problem. What is the difference between being a drunk or a klonopin addict? I stopped cold turkey and i am sleeping better than I ever did with the klonopin. With all that said, I am simply relaying my experience. Others may have had a very positive experience. Now to answer your question, will you become tolerant of K? Probably, but maybe not. I have read posts from folks that have used it everynight for the past 10 years and never went higher that 0.5 mgs. My advice is to listen to your doctor. You have to trust he will do what's best for you. We aren't doctors and shouldn't be telling you what to do. One observation I will add is that your problem is anxiety, not insomnia. Insomnia is the symptom of your anxiety and that is why the K works. Rather than work on SRT, you may want to explore cognitive therapy techniques to manage your anxiety more effectively. good luck.
