Posted by Shari on March 05, 2004 at 09:10:15:I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my questions. I decided to get a second opinion about my 2mg a night Klonopin dose because my sleep specialist seemed to think his decision was sound. My other Dr. was VERY alarmed. She said Klonopin can be dangerous if you're not careful. If you stop it abruptly, you can even have seizures (!!!!). I had no idea! She advised two days on, one off, and even trying to eventually reduce the dosage to 1 mg or .5 a night. My insomnia is caused by an anxiety disorder, and I also suffer from depression. It's a confusing, viscious circle, trying to figure out which condition affects which and how to deal with all of it. I take Prozac for depression, but the Klonopin I need for sleep is a depressant! I don't like being on meds, especially contradictory ones, but when I'm off the meds I fall apart--zero sleep to the point of psychosis, horrible anxiety, and the depression is just crushing to me. But I have a good doctor who knows my history in-depth and she is promising to help me out. As for the sleep specialist who put me on 2mg of Klonopin a night three months ago and never even told me how dangerous it is--I have decided not to see him any more. Have I done the right thing or not?
