I'm glad you got a second opinion. Have you tried a cognitive/behavioral therapist? They can be very helpful for anxiety in addition to seeing a regular MD. Another book that was very helpful to me was "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Bourne. It addresses the use of medications as well.

As far as weaning from the klonopin, work with your doctor. My doctor also suggested I wean by taking it every other night, but I found that very difficult and ended up weaning by cutting the pills very gradually into smaller and smaller pieces, taking it every night until I was down to a crumb. It took me a couple months to wean from .5 mg I think. Although I think he prescibed trazodone at that time, which I also eventually weaned from. (Not as hard as weaning from the klon.) You can do a search here for more info on that. There is a website about weaning from benzodiazepines, but I don't know the address. I think the key thing is to take it very slowly. There is a physical component, but also a pysychological one, and that element is often overlooked by MDs in my experience.

Good luck and keep us posted.
