If Elavil Works For you, plz read

Posted by LindaO on April 23, 2004 at 11:26:53:

After 11 years on Elavil and weight gain of over 100 pounds, I am weaning off to clean out my system and be able to try something else. Of course, I am experiencing the withdrawal symptoms--achy all the time and a return of my insomnia. I've tried so many other drugs, but wondered if they didn't work because I was on the Elavil.

My question to you who have successfully used Elavil for insomnia is: have you tried anything else that works? If so, what? I believe that some of us with similar body chemistries may have similar responses to meds, so that's why I'm asking.

I am currently looking for a doctor who will examine all aspects of my body chemistry--hormones, thyroid, adrenal, etc., to see if I need some help in those areas. In the past, I've tried Ambien, Sonata (both do NOTHING for me), Prosom (aka Estazolam), Imovane (from Canada), Serzone, Deseryl, Remeron, Paxil, Prozac, and all of the OTC stuff and herbals (Valerian, Melatonin, 5-HTP, Real HTP, Kava Kava, etc) and accupuncture and psychotherapy. I don't have depression, just horrible, chronic insomnia and desperate for relief, just as many posters are. I also take Mirapex because the Elavil aggrevates my RLS, but of course the Mirapex can also cause insomnia....isn't this a wonderful thing for the medical community to do?

Any experiences you've had, I'd like to hear about. Thanks in advance!
