Although not specifically about insomnia, this book is very insightful. Dr Sarno insists that many chronic conditions are psychosymatical, not physical. He has succesfully proven that many people use physical pain to cover up emotional problems. Not only back pain, but he equates ulcers, hernia, IBS, Hay fever, asthma, Eczema, Acne, tension headaches, anxiety, stomach pains, fibromyalgia, depression, and insomnia -- all to unmanaged tension in the body.
According to Sarno we are a nation that has forgotten how to relax. We have lost our ability to balance the responsibilities of daily life with practices that focus on quieting our inner self. He has determined that most illnesses and afflictions are a result of years of stress lodging in chronic patterns in the body.
Although I am past my insomnia, I can relate to this book 100%! I was nodding my head in agreement nearly the whole time. If you are having trouble sleeping you NEED to read this book. It will show you how you are more than likely using insomnia to cover up hidden emotions or problems....and how you can overcome it.
Good luck, Tom
