Went to endocrinologist today

Posted by Anne (2) on June 03, 2004 at 18:27:27:

Ok, finally went to endoc. and was let down. I went in with the labs that I had done myself through the mail, saliva sample and 150. later. I thought, "I have my ammo here and my hormone levels are off". But, she basically said the information I have read about hormones causing weight gain and sleep problems, outside of menopause with the sleep, is wrong. She found it hard to believe my labs were accurate. She said that they would have to be done a certain time of the month. I said they were and told her when. SHe was quiet, and then said they also had to be done a certain time of day. I said that they were in the a.m. Finally after no more excuses she said she is going to retest everything. I asked what if they were accurate then what do we do? She said that she suspects that they won't be. She asked if I had caffeine, drinking, do I exercise, how do I eat. I told her all the "right " answers which are true and she didn't have anything to say other than it is not likely to be due to hormones. I started crying there. I felt like a big build up waiting for my appt and it felt like yet another person not helping me. I am sick of this battle. Not only sleep, but weight too. I take pills to help sleep and I get heavier and heavier. If I decrease them, then I don't sleep. I don't sleep even when taking them so I don't know what I am thinking. Maybe I should get off them all and try to start over naturally. I don't know. I am not very happy with myself now. I feel like a mess. i am extremely forgetful, tired, living in pain and the heaviest I have ever been despite the forcing myself to exercise for weight control and help with sleep.I don't know what more to do. It is so frustrating. So I guess I will get these labs over and hope they come out the same, so maybe then she will take me seriously. THis is the second one I saw. The first just said, "you aren't in menopause, so no need to test..."
