trying to help

Posted by ghostwalker on June 03, 2004 at 22:33:16:

I am new to this place so first let me say hello! I had a lot of problems due to insomnia a few years back. I used to worry myself to death thinking about it all the time. If I did not sleep properly one night I would keep thinking about it and blame all my other failings on not being able to sleep properly. This soon became a vicious cycle. On top of that I am a great self pitier, so any one trying to help or asking me to snap out of it earned my lifetime enemity!

Then I got married to a man who slept just 4 hours and who was always full of energy and an achiever - a successful man.

He simply debunked all my nonsensical beliefs and self pity. All my protestations on how I needed one particular room, a particular bed, pillow and a particular position to sleep were in vain. Child birth and baby who woke up promptly at 10 p.m and stayed awake till 6 a.m meant bye bye sleep for months together and on top of that my husband working habits slowly made me realise that I really did not need the 8 hours of sleep to function normally.

Once I got these notions out of my head I began to enjoy my life better. I did not worry if I did not sleep for days together. one day I would simply crash and sleep off all sleep debts.

I also found that exercise helped to sleep better. I walked for half to one hour every day and try not to sleep during the day time. This helps me sleep really well.

Hope this helps others who might have similar problems.
