It is all in our heads

Posted by Quinn on June 07, 2004 at 20:44:27:

I started obsessing about sleep about one year ago. For the first 33 years of my life, I could sleep on a dime. Then a crazy thought entered my mind: "What would happen if I woke up tonight and couldn't go back to sleep?" My insomnia issue started the moment I allowed that thought to take root. I have a good friend who is also my counselor (and doctor). He continues to remind me that I need to redirect my thoughts elsewhere. One strategy that has helped me on numerous sleepless nights is the Relaxation Response. It is a simple meditative strategy that helps clear the mind. Has anyone else out there began their sleep obsession with a simple thought?
