My non-clincial assessment is that anxiety is causing your sleep disturbance. I think the cause of your anxiety probably relates to the adjustment you are having getting ready to go off to college. College is a huge life change, particularly because it is signifies flying from the nest, taking care of yourself, and surviving on your own. To that end, it can be a scary proposition. However, the fears are not always obvious and instead your just find yourself anxious and worrisome. Next thing you know, you're having trouble sleeping and all of your attention is focused on your sleep and not on the apprehension over going away. You probably just to seek some counsel to get past this anxiety and then you'll feel better.

One thing I would advise against immediately is sleeping with your mom or using mom as a means to get to sleep. You run the risk of conditioning yourself to only fall asleep when you have mom around and that would create more problems for you.

In any event, I think your problem is likely anxiety and not a sleep disorder. I remember going off to college and that I struggled with the transistion and the thoughts of what should I major in, what if I can get a job when i graduate, will i make friends, etc. In the end, everything worked out perfectly! our fears are always worse than the actually outcome.
