I will just take a few guesses.

It could be that you and your brother feel anxious about your father's insomnia and it triggered yours and then your brother was anxious about yours and your father's and it triggered his.

There may be some new outside problem that has sprung up in your area such as pollution, power lines, noise etc.

I've read that even little babies aren't sleeping as well as babies did in times past and there could be numerous reasons. I've read that we're shielded from the earth's magnetism by all the steel we're surrounded with such as cars and buildings and that can affect us.
THere's magnetic mattress pads, magnetic pillows , magnetic eyewear , magnetic pulse generators you may want to experiment with. You can read a lot of this stuff on the internet. Just do a search in Yahoo or Google on some of these things by typing in a couple of keywords such as insomnia pollution, insomnia magnetism, insomnia noise etc.

I'm instructed to reccommend you talk to your doctor about any recommendation I give on this board.
