I too was on Ambien for 2 1/2 mos and worried myself sick about dependence. My doc prescribed Paxil, which didn't help and then trazodone, which I've been on since May. It does help me sleep, but lately when I wake up at 3 or 4, I'm having trouble going back to sleep. Not sure why, probably worrying about it too much. Everything I read about prolonged use of Ambien was pretty intense. I know you're not supposed to use it more than 7-10 days, but I did. I didn;t have any withdrawal problems. I, like you, took 5 mg a night. I think eventually it doesn't work and you need to take a higher dose and that's where the problem starts with dependence. Wish someday I could kick all meds and go to sleep like I used to, naturally. Hang in there. There has to be an answer. I want to try CBT therapy too! Take care
