First I'm very grateful for this forum and the exchange of ideas. I have read the three books that have been suggested on the various posts. I think the reading of the books are a necessity to get to an understanding of the problem. Although I haven't diligently practice SR so far-I do use a book suggestion to get to sleep-which was my primary problem. The suggestion was to focus your mind on some word---and visualize it in your mind. In my mind I focus on the word "God"--then continuing to visualize the word I sing hymns in my mind (not audible) that I have learned over the years. I continue and am sleeping shortly.
Each one of us is different---this is what has worked for me. ----No Pills---
