Gadgirl, you are not alone. I've experienced the same thing. I believe this is simply anxiety. We are falling asleep and the smallest thing will wake us up. You probably didn't stop breathing or even gasp, you just felt like it. Just like when you jerk right when you fall off to sleep. When things like this happen to me, I don't let it get to me anymore. On the contrary, I tell myself "ah, I was almost asleep and that is a GOOD thing." Then let yourself relax. You are not going to stop breathing! When is the last time you heard of someone who stopped breathing in their bed, I mean an otherwise healthy person? Hang in there Gadgirl. You can and will beat this thing. And if you have not tried vitamins/supplements, I encourage you to try. Vitamin B and other things have brough my anxiety down to a very manageable level. But as always, you should check with your doctor and not just take my advice. I'm just saying it's made a huge difference for me.
