I am a little late jumping into this forum, but have just found the website today. I have battled with insomnia off and on for 5 years. Just this past year, I was prescribed Ambien was just using it when it was absolutely necessary until July. My husband and I were having some trouble and I began taking 10mg every night, which then grew into 15mg per night. I had the same side effects everyone else has mentioned before...the sleep walking and talking, eating, smoking, etc. On occasion, most recently, I have seen hallucinations like tree branches moving, my car misshapen and my dog curling up like a rattlesnake. I have also written pages and pages of nonsense...however, in the last couple of days, I have noticed more severe side effects that I only associated with the Ambien yesterday. I have had terrible migraines, blurred vision, soreness, bruising, upper respiratory infection, taste perversion, detachment, insomnia (yes, insomnia), breast pain (located mostly on my sides between the armpit and the breast) and eye pain/pressure. These are examples of what can potentially happen with extended use. I am certain all of this is not the same for everyone that uses this medication, but this is how it has effected me. After reading all of this yesterday, I decided to stop taking the medication cold turkey. I am very happy to report that I slept all night last night without any medication whatsoever. No Tylenol PM, no Sonata and definitely no Ambien. I am still not myself...I still have the headache, vertigo and eye pain/pressure, but at least I slept and I know it can be done. I hope this information helps as I was glad to see that there were others going through the same/similar hell I am going through. Apologies for the length of this post, but I felt moved. :)
