ss,
A sleep specialist would be a wonderful resource for you to consult with. I'm sure you are not the only person in the world who has insomnia and a young child. (In fact, I have a young daughter but I am fortunate in that night parenting is no longer common as my daughter generally sleeps through the night.) A specialist may be able to help you see the situation in a much clearer light.
As far as what you can do to help yourself when you do get woken up by your child, this is what I think... Getting upset or anxious or frustrated does not help get you back to sleep. The only thing that will help you back to sleep is to go back to bed (once your child is taken care of) and relax. Don't bother trying to go to sleep. Just enjoy the bed. Enjoy that you have time to rest and relax. Think about something pleasant and relaxing. You may not fall back asleep the first night or the second night or the third. But you will eventually fall back asleep. And pretty soon, you will find that it will become easier and easier to fall back asleep. You might not ever get to the point where you fall back asleep every time, but you might find yourself in a situation where you fall back asleep most of the time. Like I said, practice makes you better.
And besides, your child will begin sleeping through the night eventually. When this happens, it will make it that much easier for you to get a good night's sleep.
