Molly,

Ok hang on. It seems to me that you said in a previous post that you used to be a great sleeper. (Even as of a couple years ago..?) So putting your plan of action aside (whether it turns out to be: SR or CBT or whatever) WHAT was it, or what event (if anything) changed in your life to make you stop sleeping as well? Was there one? Or did it just come up out of nowhere? I don't know how old you are but I'm guessing you've had at least several years of good sleeping under your belt as an adult.

It sounds to me like your sleep problems are anxiety-related...which is a bit strange because usually anxiety causes sleep onset problems, not sleep maintenance problems.

Of course an answer could be that your Trazadone is helping you get to sleep initially, but then wears off later in the night, and completely disallows you from returning to sleep. This is very common. Many medications are like that. Many Trazadone users are like that from what I've read. I used to use Ambien occasionally, and it had the EXACT same effect: I'd "sleep" for 4 hours -- then that would be it for the night...I was screwed because I physically could not go back to sleep. (Yes, I realize they are different types of drugs)

I'm not going to come on here and suggest you get off your medication, but I believe whole-heartedly that the only REAL way to cure yourself is to start back at square one (medication free) and re-work your way through this at your own pace. To me, medication should be last resort.

And the fact that you used to sleep well tells me that you most like can do it again. This realization (if you choose to accept it) is the only thing you really need to get better -- in my opinion.

Also, I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions about what will or what won't work for you. Remember, just because a particular SR or CBT did or did not work for one person, does not mean a thing when it comes to you. You are a different person.

Finally, and I'm not trying to be nosy, but I'm just curious....What advice does your husband give you? I mean he's the one who sees you every day and knows what you're going through. My wife was able to finally get through to me and give me some real-life answers as to how to help myself based on what she saw me doing to myself. I'm just curious as to what your husband has to say regarding your situation.

Take care, Tom
