Thank you very much for your response. It is great to know that people care. Well even though your problem is no less important or sever than mine, you should feel assured that a lot of people go through what you are going through. Changing your sleeping pattern can be traumatizing and I can see why you would panick. If you don't have any "fear of sleep" and you are fine with "being unconscious", I would suggest trying to get into the sleeping hours of the country you are going to while you are here (if you can afford to). It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but it can be close. For example, if you are going to Italy--that is 6 hrs from the east coast of the US--start going to bed at 6 pm several days before you go there. Get out of work earlier, do an early dinner, go to bed at 6 (with a sleeping pill at first maybe, then naturally). That will be midnight in Italy, a late, but not a terribly late time to go to sleep. Then wake up at say 4 am. 10 in Italy. Do your errands, exercise, breakfast. Go to work early so you can leave early, etc., etc. Or alternatively, you can keep your US rythm in Italy, but that is more scary because you are not home, you want to hang out with people on their time, etc. So give that a try and see how that goes.
I so wish sleep came to all of us easily and happily and comfortably. Thanks to this forum we are here for each other.
Have a wonderful trip and try to enjoy it even if you can't sleep.
