Hmm....I've been on and off Trazodone for years.
The thing is that it can really improve sleep.
It has other benefits too. It might reduce pain, night sweats, depression, ... just do searches and find such indications for this drug.
I think you've dosed down to a very safe level and did it so carefully, just like I have done with many drugs I've tried. I am still searching for my perfect anti-depressant, pain reduction, night sweat reduction, no hangover medication... You've made sure there are no causes for your sleep disturbances? Liver is okay? Blood is okay? Pain?
Consider a probationary period. Try sleeping w/o it for say 3-4 weeks?
Do be ready for nights of tossing and turning which won't, IMO, be from withdrawal but from habit as taking the pills was part of the calming habits and routines that you are used to.
If such fails, I'd not fear the drug. It's one of the oldest, safest, and best known drugs.
You have a choice! You know you can always return to it if you can't sleep on your own.
I feel that many of us suffer sleep problems from some deep seated problem or physical problem.
Back to pain... It can be subtle pain and all this time the drug was helping.
Sometimes it's just impossible to resolve issues via psychoanolycal help and it's just plain more simple to take an effective (and you're lucky you've found one that has suited you for years) and use it to get a good night's sleep if analysis doesn't work. It could take years and it is said, just because you go deep into such problems doesn't mean it will solve present symptoms, i.e., sleep disorders.
You're careful so, IMO, go ahead and experiment but always report to physician, even if by phone, an altering of dosage of any med. I wish you much luck and respect your carefulness. I am not a sleep specialist or expert, just another sufferer here seeking help but have researched a lot and been given so many darned drugs to try to help my symptoms of pain, night sweats, health issues, etc.
Good luck!
