Been A While Since I Posted

Posted by sleepynj on June 01, 2005 at 08:49:38:

My sleep has improved greatly over the past two years. Generally, I am not afraid of sleeping and usually look forward to going to bed. I can't say any one thing solved my problem. Lot's of things helped, but the most important thing that I did was take action against the things that were bothering me in my life (this is often hard to do. We get comfortable with the "known" even if it is bad for us.). All that said, I recently ran into some tough nights again. Having been free of this stuff for a while, it really hits you hard, "brain fog", anxiety, frustration, etc. Then I realized that getting angry doesn't help and worrying doesn't help and most importantly, sleep will return. I guess I am posting to remind you not be discouraged by setbacks and to elicit some empathy for my foggy head today.

Lastly, remember that you are not alone. Insomnia is very common. I was watching an episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy this past weekend and the guy they were helping was asked about his sleep habits and he said he doesn't sleep, he has insomnia. I started to laugh. I think the problem is not so much the insomnia, but the obessing over its existence in our live. Treat it like a birthmark. It's there, but once accepted not even really noticed.
