I've never heard of William Dement - maybe because I'm British-based, but will do a bit of research on the 'net about him.

Physical excercise is a bit of a sore point. I used to be extremely fit - half-marathon runner in pretty fast times. With the onset of the really bad insomnia I've had to give up all forms of excercise because I'm too knackered to do it.

This has resulted in a severe reduction in my self-esteem, because not only am I now very unfit, but am also running to fat - the one thing I've always dreaded. I'm sure that not excercising is a contributory factor in my current severe insomnia, but I'm in the old Catch 22 situation.

I think amitryptaline is the only antidepressant I haven't tried. Trouble is the Health Service in UK isn't like in the US - you can't just turn up at your doctors and demand a particular drug - they have to come up with the idea first, or they get very upset, believing that they are the experts.

To be honest, I was on tricyclics for 10 years, and I don't really want to go back onto anti-depressants again - getting off them is something I'm quite proud of.

Will look into Lunesta, though.

Thanks for your support
