**Ambien and sleeping the 7-8 hours

If i take ambien and sleep for 5-6 hours, is this harmful? i know you're supposed to take it when you plan to sleep 7-8 hours but doesn't that only serve as a way of keeping you from forgetting things DURING THE TIME PERIOD of 7-8 hours (if you for example take ambien at 1am and wake up at 6am, will you simply have trouble remembering the things you do till 8-9am? is this even something serious to worry about?) So is this something one really needs to be concerned over and if so, does it affect memory during the whole day/long-term?
