rj,

Well first of all, quite honestly.....if either of my parents were sick or had cancer (not to mention both) I would probably not be sleeping either. I'm just so sorry for you and your parents, and I'll be praying for all of you.

As far as the doctors go, you have to remember one thing. And that is that doctors are trained from a book. A book of medical information. They're REAL good at dealing with broken arms and ear infections. But when it comes to dealing with sleep -- or anything else that stems from emotions -- they're just in the dark. In fact, as you're finding out, they would just assume brush us insomniacs under the rug and make us go away because they have no clue how to treat us. All they can do is prescribe the latest drug (which isn't meant to be taken for more than 10 days.)

You actually nailed it on the head when you said doctors are just drug pushers. And this happens because drugs, in many cases, are the quick and easy way to mask the symptoms of a given disease or condition. Long gone are the days when doctors would treat a health condition with (heaven forbid) nutrition, exercise regiments, natural herbs, massage therapy, breathing exerices, skilled relaxation, or any other natural (or free) therapy. Instead it seems to be all about the drugs and the money nowdays.

But there are rescorces out there. There is a huge society of natural healers. Personally I would look into a book by Doctor John Sarno called 'Healing Back Pain'...or another called 'The Mind-Body Prescription.'...both which deal with TMS.

Very quickly, TMS is a strategy of the brain’s to keep unpleasant thoughts and emotions from rising from the unconscious into the conscious mind. The brain creates pain or other physical discomforts as a distraction. By focusing our attention on physical symptoms, we keep these painful thoughts and emotions repressed. There are lots of website on the net about this. Good luck, Tom
