I have had the same reaction in the past. I was almost hypervigilant around my sleep. Everything had to be just so.

The only idea that comes to me in your situation is to get a good relaxation tape that will be soothing and yet mask the goings on in the house.

Or, maybe watching a nice movie or reading a book until they have gone to bed might also be a solution. That way you don't wait for the sounds to stop, and get frustrated. The important thing is not to get anxious.
