A couple of this happen here:

1) Laughther is a pleasant experience. Pleasant feelings release serotonin and endorphins which continue the pleasant feeling and the feeling of calmness.

2) Stimulus during the day is required for a good night sleep. The activtiy and the information that your brain is exposed to will increase pressure to sleep. The brain needs time to process the new information. Hence the need for sleep. Insomniacs too often make the critical mistake of avoiding stimulus because they are afraid it worsen their sleep. Not true!!! You need to activity and to socialize to create the need for sleep.

By hanging out with friends you nailed both of the preceding points which resulted in blissful sleep. Now take that experience and find new ways to remain involved with the outside world.
