I had horrible reactions to Amitriptylin (Elavil) and I think TomNTexas did too (he posts on this board often). I had a very similar reaction as you did - even worse for a while. They hand out these drugs like candy! Hendo, it sounds like you run of the mill anxiety induced insomnia. It's important that you realize this is not going to be the end of you. Many of us have experienced the same thing you are experiencing now. And many of us have found our cure, or are at least much improved. I believe you can beat this without resorting to drugs. I did. I still struggle with insomnia but it does not control my life anymore and although my sleep is eradic, I am loving my life once again. Please follow my advice:
1) Remember you won't die and you won't go crazy. You may feel like it, but you won't.
2) Remember your body will eventually sleep. It has to, just like it has to breath and eat.
3) Remember at one time you slept just fine. You will sleep just fine once again. This is just a temporary stage and your anxious response is causing it to be worse.
4) Read the posts on this board by TomNTexas, Chris, Otis, Beth, Paul, lookingforzzz, and of course mine:):)
5) Know that each of us is praying for you and that we have the faith and hope for you.
