Posted by not_drowsy on October 04, 2005 at 20:44:08:If anybody could share their experiences of chronic insomnia caused by depression I would appreciate it. My sleep doc suspects I'm depressed and that is causing my chronic insomnia. I'm not entirely convinced that my depression is the culprit. I'm in the process of seeing a nurse practitioner but I'm skeptical that they'll tell anybody their depressed. Can you be depressed and truly not be aware of it? I literally lost the ability to sleep overnight and haven't felt the same since. I never feel sleepy or drowsy. Only sleep for about 4 hours or less then wake up. Never feel rested and always fatigued but my body seems to tolerate it; could never do that before the insomnia. It's hard to believe that depression can supress your ability to initiate and maintain sleep unless there is something else going on that is being overlooked. My primary doctor did a blood test and told me I'm healthy. I've been down in the dumps before and was consciously aware of it but is that the same as depression?
