Exaggerated response to noise?

Posted by jen5276 on October 06, 2005 at 06:05:46:

Hey everyone,

I was just curious as to who might have this problem - does anyone notice that sometimes when you are trying to fall asleep, and you hear a loud noise or something of the sort, it kind of totally screws up the "drifting off" process? I have been dealing with this insomnia for a little over a year now and I have noticed that although it has its ups and downs, this is one thing that remains constant. Like if I hear a noise from outside or something it really throws me off. I totally jump awake, my heart starts racing, and then it's back to square one...

Does anyone know if this is normal (then again, what is normal in this crazy world of insomnia, right :). Any input would be appreciated...
