Posted by Gadgirl on February 13, 2006 at 07:22:43:Hi Tom! I'm writing this note to you because, like you, I have been down the long path of insomnia and unlike you, I am still struggling with all the demons. You have been so inspirational to many on this board, myself included, that I'm curious about how you handle a couple of things. One, do you still find yourself thinking daily and/or nightly about the "problem"? and if not, how did you get rid of the obsession? Secondly, if and when you awake in the wee hours, what helps you to fall back asleep? My journey has been almost two years and although I am better today than a year ago, I still find myself thinking about my insomnia on a daily basis. I've tried focusing on other things, which does help, however, this has become such a large part of my life that I feel I won't be able to rid myself of it mentally. I keep active and refuse to give in completely to the fears, etc., but cannot seem to "kick" it out of my head once and for all. Many of the posts here have been extremely helpful to me. What is frustrating is I will go along and have many restful nights albeit after taking my trazodone and then boom, out of nowhere it seems, I'll have a bad night. This, of course, triggers some of the old anxieties, but I am able to cope. When I have a night like last night, waking at 2:45 and not able to fall asleep, I feel very frustrated and disappointed. Hence, I come to the message board and post my thoughts and concerns. Well, Tom thanks once again for all your help and advice. I know many of us who have struggled and continue to struggle, greatly appreciate your information and pearls of wisdom.
