After reading your story over again, I want to add that sleeping pills are all the same in the sense that you will get only a few hours of sleep. In fact, on sleeping pills, you are skipping some of the phases of sleep so necessary to feel rested. You know people who drink to get to sleep realize once they've stopped drinking that they never really slept at all when they were using alcohol.

A natural sleep is the best. You feel yourself going into the different phases, you can feel your breathing changing, and you do sleep all night. Also, if needed, you can be awaken without dreadful or dangerous consequences.

Sleeping pills rob you of your will, your courage, your ability to control your life. It seems like the easy way out but in fact, it robs you of a part of your soul because you are no longer yourself, you are under the influence of a drug. So much comes with sobriety - pride, energy, self-confidence, health, clear thinking, balance, etc....It's worth the effort and I so wish sleeping pills would have never been invented so people would have to face life with strength and courage - the satisfaction I get from living soberly is worth the effort, and it has left stronger spiritually, mentally, financially and physically.

Good luck. You can do it. Many people here will offer the kind of help you'll need to face the challenge. The sleeping pills in your case are no longer working and making you miserable, so why not make that positive change, even if it seems nearly impossible to do, it is, believe me, it's possible.

Don't expect miracles. Give yourself the time to get well, one day at a time.
