It seems like the recent loss of your pet has triggered some temporary grief/worry which in turn has started your Insomia off again.This is understandable and in short time will settle down to how you previously were again.
If you are a worrier anyway? I know how things can get you down quite easily and that starts the whole negative thinking off again.

BTW.As LunarLander said.Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a proven method for treating Insomnia as well as Anxiety/Depression,and probably more effective than pills in the long term.I'm on the waiting list for it myself
