Well, I saw someone who specialized in insomnia at a sleep clinic. The problem was, they were so dogmatic about sleep restriction being the cure for all insomnia, and I found that sleep restriction made my insomnia worse, because it stressed me out. They were proud that they got me sleeping 5 hours in a row but when they couldn't extend that with sleep restriction, they sent me off for medication for anxiety/stress.
Sleep restriction had no part in my recovery and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except those who may be sleeping weird hours or something. CBT has helped a lot, and the Remeron helped get me back on solid ground. The biggest help has been changing my thinking not only about insomnia, but about all the stressors in my life. For some reason, many sleep specialists haven't caught on to CBT as a solution, despite the fact that I saw an article about insomnia in a major medical journal that found that CBT was the most effective solution.
