I have not posted in a few years.I had unbelievable insomnia for about 8 years prior to menopause. For years I sometimes only slept 10 hours a week, being up for three days straight. You can read my long and arduous struggle in the first 10 files. At this juncture, which is about 2 years post menopause I still require using a half of an over the counter sleep remedy, but I am able to sustain anywhere from 6-7 and a half hours of sleep a night. Frankly I am not sure if this is psychological at this point. I still have problems at times when I travel or stay up too late and get mentally stimulated , but for the most part my sleeping function has tremendously improved. I used to wake up in the middle of the night unable to fall back aseep and only able to sleep til 4am ,the latest. Now I don't have long wake up's in the middle of the night and am able to sleep until almost 6:00 on most days. I realize that I will never be the world's greatest sleeper but I do not dwell on it, and go about my life, realizing that so many people endure far worse conditions than insomnia, something I thought was the absolute worst thing that could happen in life .So the bottom line is that perimenapuse exaserbated the condition although was not fully responsible , in the end for the problem. Hope it doesn't take too long for you to complete this cycle in your life.....Hope
